Massive glacier landslide devastates Swiss village, missing person search continues

A large section of a glacier in the Swiss Alps has broken off, resulting in a torrent of ice, mud, and rock that has submerged the majority of a village evacuated earlier this month as a security precaution. A massive glacier collapsed down a Swiss mountainside on Wednesday, burying the Alpine village of Blatten, which officials had evacuated earlier this month as a safety measure. Regional police said a 64-year-old man was reported missing, and search and rescue operations involving a drone with thermal camera were under way. “What I can tell you at the moment is that about 90% of the village is covered or destroyed, so it's a major catastrophe that has happened here in Blatten," said Stephane Ganzer, the head of security in the southern Valais region. Footage shared on social media and Swiss television showed the mudslide near Blatten, located in the southern Lötschental valley, where residences and structures were partially submerged under a large mass of sludge.   A new chapter in the   Harry Potter   franchise has begun. HBO’s upcoming   Harry Potter  original TV series   has officially cast newcomer Arabella Stanton as Hermione Granger. But what do we know about the rising star who will be taking over Emma Watson’s iconic role? On May 27, HBO finally revealed who will be playing the  Harry Potter  trio in the network’s upcoming adaptation. Dominic McLaughlin, Alastair Stout, and Arabella Stanton will portray Harry Potter, Ron Weasley, and Hermione Granger, respectively. Over 32,000 young actors auditioned for the roles previously held by Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson, and Rupert Grint after HBO opened a casting call last fall.
